Ray Parry Playground Services Limited

Case study: Severndale School

click to zoomDuring the past seven years we have on several occasions installed items of play equipment for Chris Davies head of Severndale Specialist School and its immediate neighbour Chris Huss head of The Wilfred Owen Primary School both of which were always impressed with our level of service.

In 2005 Plans were drawn up by the Local Education Authority to rebuild both these schools and create two state of the art Modern Schools on the existing site to be named Monkmoor Campus.

The Main contract was awarded to Moss Construction (Part of the Kier group) and immediately Both Chris Davies and Chris Huss requested that Ray Parry Playgrounds were involved and allowed to tender through Shropshire County Council for both schools including a total of seven play areas.

After a valued brain storming session with both headmasters and their heads of departments as to their vision of the new provision it was decided to draw up a wish list of ideas that could be incorporated into their budget and area available. It was apparent at this stage that the Wilfred Owen Primary School required a range of equipment to suit the needs of all children from the nursery through to eleven year olds and that Severndale Specialist School required equipment to accommodate from nursery through to eighteen year olds many of which required special needs. In May 2007 we were delighted to hear that we had been successful in our tender and had been awarded the first phase of contracts for the Wilfred Owen School.

The First Phase rebuild of Wilfred Owen began in 2007 and we were awarded the contract to begin in July and be fully completed by 10th September ready for the start of the autumn term.

We worked closely with Moss Construction who’s engineers commented on several occasions that our company was one of the most obliging sub contractors they have been involved with and were more than pleased with our approach to working with a main contractor on such a large contract.

The equipment included low-level agility, climbing frames, timber shelters, themed nursery play, fencing, rebound walls and Rubber Safer Surfacing.

The Second phase of Severndale Specialist School was awarded to us in August 2008 to be completed by December included Timber Shelters, Pergolas, All Ability Multi Units, All Ability Roundabout, Play Panels and coloured Wet Pour Safer Surfacing.

Serverndale is one of the largest special schools in the country catering for the needs of almost 300 pupils with complex learning needs. We have worked with Ray Parry for many years; this working relationship has enabled us to delivery high quality environments for our children, The Company knows us, and understands our specialist needs and budgetary requirements.

The latest building project has been complex with multiple areas constructed to a very high standard whilst adhering to a tight timescale. Ray Parry and his team of installers have completed an excellent job and we would recommend their services without hesitation.
